2022 Legislative Update: Second Week

Hello everyone, this is Representative Cory Maloy. We are working hard this year to pass good legislation for the citizens of Utah. In this newsletter, I wanted to update you on a few things that have happened.

Base Budget

We are hard at work and have passed the base budget! The base budget includes funding for essential state expenses. The legislature will continue to make adjustments to the state budget over the next several weeks. Watch this short video to learn more! 

Economic Update

Utah continues to be one of the nation’s best-performing economies! Utah tops the charts in having more jobs now than before the pandemic. This is indicative of our state's hardworking heritage and boundless innovation. 

Tax Cut

I know how hard you all work to provide for your families. That is why when we have a surplus the first thing on our minds at the Legislature is to provide a tax cut for the hardworking citizens of Utah. Even though Utah is well-positioned to provide tax relief, we must do so carefully because we don’t want to make long-term plans based on short-term revenue increases. SB 59 State Income Tax Reduction passed the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee and will soon make its way to the House. I will continue to keep you updated on this. 

Meeting With District 6 Students

I have been able to meet with a lot of the students in our district. Whether at their schools or up at the capitol it has been great meeting with the students of our district.

Bill Highlight

I am happy to report that we were able to get  S.B. 115 Firearm Preemption Amendments Bill Text through with the Senate Committee with a favorable recommendation. I am proud of the work we are doing at the legislature in protecting our second amendment rights. I will continue to keep you updated on the bills I am working on.
