Bill Updates

Fallen Officers

Friday we honored Utah’s fallen first responders who died while serving our state. I express my utmost gratitude and sincerest condolences to the families of the five officers we lost this past year. Their service and sacrifice for our state can never be repaid.

Water Projects and ARPA Funds

As our water supply in Utah diminishes, preserving and optimizing our water is more critical than ever. This past week, a working group of water experts and policymakers presented their recommendations on how to use the state's federal ARPA funds to address our water needs.

Their recommendations on how to use the funds include:

  • Secondary water metering
  • Drinking water infrastructure
  • Ag water optimization
  • The Great Salt Lake and Utah Lake preservation

Federal Funds

In 2020 and 2021, the Federal Government spent over $5 trillion in stimulus money. The excess of revenue in our state budget this year is a direct result of federal spending. Additionally, these funds increase inflation and tax revenue.

Bill Highlight

This week I introduced HB295, Physician Workforce Amendments. The bill creates grant programs to address the physician workforce in the state. Grants would be used to create new medical residency positions and establish a new forensic psychiatrist fellowship program. At the end of this week, HB295 was in the House Rules Committee. I will keep you updated on the bills that I am working on.
